Global projects with lasting impact

Support what matters most to you - choose from a range of projects across sea, land and air. From blue carbon removal, afforestation, tree planting across the world to renewables and nature-based carbon avoidance projects.

  • Carbon removal

Producing biochar using waste biomass in the USA

Wakefield Biochar is a minority-owned American company dedicated to enhancing the planet’s health through its mission of “Better Soil. Better World.” The company focuses on transforming waste from pulp, paper, and sawmills into biochar.

  • Carbon removal

Boosting crops and soil whilst permanently locking up CO₂ with UNDO

UNDO spreads its carbon-removing silicate rock on partner farmers’ land free of charge. To date, they have spread 170k tonnes of basalt on 163 farms, totalling 8.6k hectares.

  • Carbon removal

Transforming waste into biogas in Cambodia

The Biodigester Program was designed to address the gaps in access to electricity, whilst also providing local jobs, a reduction of GHG emissions and a number of other benefits for rural household users.

  • Reforestation

    Conserving the Amazon in Brazil

Fazenda Manoa, situated in Rondônia in southern Brazil. The main objective of the project is developing activities to mitigate climate change, reduce GHG emissions caused by deforestation and forest degradation, promoting social well-being and conserving local biodiversity.

  • Community

    Fuel-efficient cookstoves in Uganda

UpEnergy, headquartered in Uganda, works in low income communities to fight climate change while providing affordable, life improving clean technologies that protect local environments.

  • Reforestation

Planting forest gardens in Busoga, Uganda

Trees for the Future has planted more than 250 million trees since it was founded in 1989. In addition to enhancing ecological and environmental benefits at planting sites around the world, TREES’ staff are experts in agroforestry.

  • Carbon removal

    Restoring blue carbon ecosystems

By funding blue carbon projects through Ecologi, you’ll be supporting a range of projects around the world which contribute to locking up carbon in these incredible coastal ecosystems.

  • Habitat restoration

    Restoring Wildflowers, Wetlands and Wildlife

We will be funding the restoration and conservation of 4 types of habitats: wildflower meadows, wetlands (including peatland restoration), heathland, and woodland.

  • Carbon removal

Producing biochar from waste biomass in Wales

Carbon Hill is a family-run farm with a 20-year history in the biomass industry, having transitioned to biochar production over the past three years.

Frequently asked questions

Are you a registered charity?

No, we’re a for-profit environmental organisation.

When we started Ecologi, we realised that if we became a charity and relied solely on donations and government grants, then we wouldn’t be able to reach the global scale of climate impact that we’re intending to achieve. A thriving and self-sustaining business model is attractive for investors who often come with deep pockets and mean we can grow quickly and have more impact.

We operate quite similarly to a non-profit or charity though, and highly value transparency. We publicly publish financial information, climate impact data, and our board meeting minutes in our Public Impact Ledger.

How do you ensure the trees are protected?

The difference between a well managed reforestation project, and one that isn’t, is huge. It’s imperative that your funds go to a project that meets the exceptionally high criteria needed for mass tree planting as a tool for combating climate change.

For answers to lots of common questions such as “how do you protect the trees?” take a look at our article on responsible reforestation.

Why did we create Ecologi?

So we can do something about this! We’ve got an incredible opportunity to turn this mess around and be the greatest thing our generation does. We’re not waiting for politicians to make the necessary changes to put us on the right course.

Contributing to climate crisis solutions is hard. Apart from some lifestyle choices that you can make there’s little you can easily do.

We started this when we found that we can make an incredible impact with just a few pounds a month. Read more.

Is my carbon footprint that big?

It’s very likely your carbon footprint is way beyond the targets for limiting a climate catastrophe. Even if your food is plant-based, local and in season, there’s a mind boggling carbon cost for almost anything you spend your money on.

With Ecologi we’ll help you become carbon aware of everyday things and start your journey to low carbon living.

Can this stop climate change?

There are billions of concerned people on this planet who care, but don’t know how to make a meaningful contribution. If we can get the right platform that allows us to make the impact we want to, and continue the process of carbon awareness then there’s an amazing opportunity.

The underlying projects you’ll be supporting (e.g. reforestation, renewables, efficient cooking stoves) are all ranked highly in terms of climate change solutions.

One of our goals is to plant one billion trees, read about why this isn’t such a crazy idea.

Is my carbon footprint offset by newly-planted trees?

No, the trees you fund through your subscription are NOT being used to offset your carbon footprint.

Every Ecologi subscription is used for two purposes: to offset your carbon footprint through verified carbon credits, AND – separately – to plant trees.

The carbon avoidance projects you fund to offset your footprint rotate each month between top-quality projects that prevent greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere. It's vital that only emissions prevented from being released that can be accurately measured are used for offsetting purposes, and so only certified carbon avoidance projects can be used for this purpose. We only fund carbon avoidance projects which meet the highest certification standards, such as Gold Standard or Verified Carbon Standard. In addition, we aim to fund offset projects which meet other important sustainability and development standards like CCBS and SDVista. We also consult data from third-party sources to ensure that the prevention of emissions is actually taking place. Only projects that we can be confident are actually preventing the emissions they claim to be will be used on our platform.

As for the trees your subscription funds, until they are several years old they are not mature enough to sequester carbon in large quantities. There are verification programmes which exist to verify the amount of carbon trees sequester, however they often will not verify carbon removal from trees until they are around 10 years old. We all know how important trees are for a healthy planet, but they also are vital for creating thriving ecosystems full of life, and for supporting healthy and sustainable livelihoods. These are the benefits that our customers can be proud of supporting, and we'd encourage you to shout about! The trees are, of course, also sequestering carbon  from the atmosphere, but since we can't accurately measure how much carbon dioxide is being removed by the trees we shouldn't use it for any offsetting purposes.

How can you prove my impact?

In our drive to be transparent about the climate solutions we fund, we publish the certificates for all of the carbon credits (verified tonnes of carbon emissions reduced) that we buy, and also the receipts from our purchases of tree planting services from our tree-planting partners. You can view these here.

We only fund carbon offset projects which meet the highest verification standards, such as Gold Standard or Verified Carbon Standard. In addition, we aim to fund offset projects which meet other important sustainability and development standards like CCBS and SDVista – which show how the offset projects (as well as meeting a recognised carbon standard) also contribute positive impacts to the local communities, and to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

We only work with tree-planting partners who plant trees responsibly. In addition, our partners are regularly audited by third parties, and publish internal reports for us with updates and data from our planting sites. Check out this annual audit for our Madagascan tree planting project for an audit example. You can read more on responsible reforestation here.
